Fällkniven DC4 Double Sided Sharpening Stone

Woodcrafters Axe Care Kit

The Woodcrafters Axe Care Kit contains everything you need to keep your axe well maintained. Taking good care of your axe and giving it a little extra attention will ensure that it lasts for many years to come.

The Axe Care Kit contains a leather wax to protect and grease the sheath, a protective oil to rub on the handle and axe head, and a double sided ceramic / diamond stone to grind and sharpen the axe’s edge.

There is an old adage for keeping your axe handle well oiled: "once a day for a week, once a week for a month, once a month for a year, then yearly."

This prevents the head becoming loose and will ensure the longevity of the handle.

A similar approach applies to sharpening, keeping the edge in tip top condition, by sharpening little & often saves hours of regrinding and re-profiling in the long run - #staysharp!

Sharpening Stone - Fallkniven DC4

The Fallkniven DC4 is a pocket sized (10x31.com) combination diamond/ceramic whetstone that will handle all your sharpening needs. It is particularly well suited for keeping axes with flat bevels sharp on the go. The stone consists of a fine diamond stone (25 micron) and a special ceramic stone, made of synthetic sapphire.

Golden Diamond Side: 25-micron grit (roughly equivalent to a ~600 to 800 grit diamond stone) used for general shaping and initial edge repair.

Grey Ceramic Side: 5-micron grit (synthetic sapphire ceramic, roughly comparable to a fine ~1000–3000+ grit traditional stone) used for refining and polishing the edge

The advantage of these materials is that, over long periods of use, they will keep their flat shape which is important when sharpening your knife. And, since these materials are ultra sharp they will sharpen any steel, even the extremely hard powder steels.

You do not need to lubricate these stones, but now and then you should consider cleaning them with warm water and liquid soap. The stones might feel coarse from the start but will become smoother after some use. A leather pouch is included.
