Marttini 'Aapa' Forged Knife
The bold Aapa knife embodies the harsh atmosphere of the Finnish swamp landscape. The model combines the typical characteristics of two strong traditional knives: the blade of a classic Lapp knife and the handle of a Lynx knife. The blade is made of forged carbon steel. The handle is an earthy mix of curly birch waxed in a tar tone and reindeer antler bone. The new sheath type has a wider holster.
Designed for both utility and tradition, the Aapa knife is a rugged yet refined tool built for demanding tasks. The forged carbon steel blade (80CrV2, HRC 59.5) offers exceptional sharpness and durability, making it ideal for carving, bushcraft, and outdoor use.
Its ergonomic handle, crafted from richly tar-waxed curly birch and accented with reindeer antler, provides a secure and comfortable grip even in harsh conditions. The newly designed sheath, with its wider holster, ensures easy access and reliable carry.
Whether in the wilderness or the workshop, the Aapa knife is a true companion for those who appreciate Nordic craftsmanship and timeless design.
Marttini Knives: A Story of Arctic Evolution
In 1928, blacksmith Janne Marttiini founded a knife factory in Rovaniemi, Finnish Lapland, driven by the need to create high-quality utility knives for harsh Arctic conditions. Marttiini crafted knives using natural materials like leather, curly birch, and reindeer antler, paired with ultra-sharp blades made from the finest steel. His creations quickly proved to be the perfect tools for tough environments, blending beauty with exceptional functionality. Today, Marttiini knives continue to embody generations of craftsmanship and modern technology, representing the strength and beauty of the far North.
Tool Care
A blunt knife is an unsafe knife - keep edge tools sharp! A blunt knife is an unsafe knife - keep edge tools sharp! Remember to take proper care of your carbon steel knife. Always dry the blade carefully after use and oil the blade with linseed oil or camelia oil on a regular basis. This will ensure your knife will serve you loyally from one year to the next.
