Spend a relaxing and rewarding day learning the art of green wood carving in the inspiring surroundings of The Orchard Studio in Dartington. Guided by award-winning craftsman and author Alex Finberg, you’ll learn to work directly with freshly cut wood, using traditional hand tools and age-old techniques to carve a beautiful kitchen spatula and a wooden spoon — both practical, tactile, and deeply satisfying to make.
This beginner-friendly workshop blends calm focus with creative flow. You’ll discover how to read the grain, safely use carving tools, and shape wood with confidence — all while enjoying the slow rhythm of making by hand. With time to refine your pieces, ask questions, and soak up the tranquil and inspiring Orchard Studio, you’ll leave with new skills, confidence, and two handmade pieces to take home and use for years to come.

No prior experience is necessary, ALL are welcome, this is a friendly and welcoming workshop. If you need adjustments for mobility or other needs, please reach out. The carving site is a 2-minute walk from the studio
Vene:
Located at The New Orchard Carving Studio at the Cider Press Centre in Dartington, Near Totnes Parking is FREE for course participants. The car park is a very short walk from the studio.
