Decorating the Hand Carved Spoon Workshop
Unlock the beauty of handcrafted wooden spoons by learning a variety of decorative techniques in this hands-on workshop.
We'll explore the use of traditional milk paints, oils, and natural stains to add colour and depth to your creations. You'll also learn the basics of chip carving, a timeless method for adding intricate patterns, and lettering to personalize your spoons. Whether you're new to spoon decoration or looking to expand your skills, this workshop offers the perfect blend of creativity and craftsmanship.
Join us and bring your wooden spoons to life with unique designs and finishes. If you would like to buy a plain carved spoon from Alex, which you can then decorate, you can add a spoon blank here.

Experience Required
No prior experience is required, making this an enjoyable and accessible workshop for all skill levels. Our focus will be on creativity and bringing spoons to life! You can bring your own wooden spoons to decorate or treat yourself to a hand-carved blank from Alex, available here

No prior experience is necessary, ALL are welcome, this is a friendly and welcoming workshop. If you need adjustments for mobility or other needs, please reach out. The carving site is a five-minute walk from the parking area.
Venue:
Located at Lower Sharpham Barn on the River Dart, the venue is part of a rewilding project with stunning views. Use what3words: coffee.hindering.facts to navigate. Please allow extra time for the bumpy track!
Safety & Wellbeing
Alex is trained in Outdoor & Paediatric First Aid and has extensive teaching experience. Each workshop is risk-assessed for safety. We’ll ideally carve outside, so please bring warm clothing and sturdy footwear. All carving areas are within a two-minute walk from the car park, and restrooms are available along with refreshments in the tea barn.

Alex’s workshops foster a supportive environment, allowing everyone to learn at their own pace. Sharpening can be a frustrating but equally rewarding practice. You’ll leave empowered with the skills and confidence to continue sharpening at home.
