1 Day Bowl Carving Workshop

I am delighted to be putting a one day bowl carving workshop in a beautiful private woodland near Ermington, South Devon

This is a very special opportunity to spend the day carving bowls away from the distractions of life at a uniquely homely venue. We'll spend the day carving bowls, tucked away in the grounds of a beautiful forest school site with a large clearing, canvas structures and fire area.

Our hosts have agreed for us to use the site until the early evening so we'll have time to embark on a journey from log to finished bowl and really immerse ourselves in the carving process all day.

You'll have the opportunity to chose to carve the bowl of your choice, a large serving bowl or traditional dough bowl, or a smaller porridge bowl or trinket size mini bowls or a unique table piece which will become a family heirloom!

There will be a fire going, tea, coffee and cake, an ample supply of fresh green wood to carve the bowl of your choice and all tools and resources provided

Format of The Day
09:30am - Arrival, 5 minute Walk to the Woods,

09:45am - Tea & Coffee on the fire

10am - 12:30pm Splitting a log and carving with an axe

12:30pm - Lunch

1:15pm - Gouge & Hook Knife Carving

2:30pm - Tea Break

2:45 pm - 4:30pm Knife Carving

4:30pm - 6pm - Free Carving

Experience Required
This is a perfect introduction to green wood working workshop with no previous experience required, and yet it is also suitable for more advanced woodworkers who would like to delve into the world of carving bowls with hand tools

If you have any learning needs such as adjustments due to mobility or other abilities please get in touch, I'm more than happy to explore how to support your learning together. Please note this site requires a five minute walk from the car to the carving area

Approach to Learning
My approach to running workshops is to make them as enjoyable and as accessible as possible. Together as a group we create a positive learning environment where there is no such thing as a stupid question(!) and everyone is put at ease to relax into and enjoy the day.

There is a wonderfully meditative state which can be found when carving wood which can be quite addictive! You'll come away with the opportunity to take away all the tools, skills and resources needed to carry on carving at home.

Venue
Our venue is located near the village of Ermington South Devon.

The venue is best navigated to via what 3 words. Please arrive at 09:30am promptly so we can walk over to the woodland area together.
