Elwell History
From the 'History, Gazetteer and Directory of Staffordshire', by William White of Sheffield, 1851 it says: Mr Elwell, of Wednesbury Forge Works, employs about 300 hands, and machinery, propelled by water and steam power, in the manufacture of spades, shovels, hoes, axes, and other edge tools, for the home and foreign markets”.

More info about the history of Elwell's Wednesbury Forge can be found here

This is a fantastic hatchet, restored to a high standard perfect for bushcraft, camping, and green woodwork. A superb all rounder to throw in the rucksack, capable of all tasks, you could fell a small tree with it, split firewood, kindling and carve bowls with it! This is a heavier axe, with a head weight of 800 grams it will move through anything you throw at it.

I have restored the axe, removing old paint but leaving the patina, linseed oiled the handle and given it a red linseed oil stain, so it never gets lost in the woods. It comes razor sharp and ready to carve.

I can make a premium leather sheath for an additional £25 - just drop me a message and I can get making!

Axe Safety

*This axe is extremely sharp, sharp enough to shave with! Please take care whilst handling and hanging this axe.
