Woodcraft Sessions @Southcombe Barn
I am delighted to be putting on a series of three spoon carving sessions at Southcombe Barn, a beautiful home and creative sanctuary on Dartmoor. This series we'll be focussing on some inspirational spoon designs from East to West, including Ramen Spoons, Swedish Eating Spoons finishing with Celtic Love Spoons.

We will spend our evening on the 15th carving a Swedish Eating Spoon

Swedish Eating Spoons
We will be immersing ourselves into the wonderful world of Slöjd, looking at some of the beautiful examples of antique Swedish spoons and carving our own Swedish inspired spoon. There is a rich history of spoon carving in Sweden, many spoon carvers attribute the resurgence of spoon carving to traditional carver Wille Sundqvist's book 'Swedish Carving Techniques', and in recent times his son, Jögge Sundqvist's book Slöjd in Wood, we'll be delving into both these books, together with images from Alex's research into antique Swedish spoons from museum catalogues and carving our own unique takes on this wonderful culture of spoon carving

Spoon Carving Workshop Series: East to West
You are welcome to join for a one off or book all 3 workshops, they are set to follow a journey from the simpler form of a Japenese Ramen Spoon to exploring the beauty and intricacy of Swedish eating spoons, finishing with a Celtic Inspired Love Spoon

Experience & Learning Needs
This is a perfect introduction to woodcraft with no previous experience required

If you have any learning needs such as adjustments due to mobility or other abilities please get in touch, I'm more than happy to explore how to support your learning together.

Approach to Learning
My approach to running workshops is to make them as enjoyable and as accessible as possible. Together as a group we create a positive learning environment where there is no such thing as a stupid question(!) and everyone is put at ease to relax into and enjoy the day.

There is a wonderfully meditative state which can be found when carving wood which can be quite addictive! You'll come away with the opportunity to take away all the tools, skills and resources needed to carry on carving at home.
